It would be hilarious if it were not so deadly serious in its implications to watch Liberals, including Marxists such as Barack Obama and his sycophants, try to construct and pursue a centrally planned economy (in the present case, health care in the United States).
Hilarious because homo sapiens have known for at least a few hundred years that no government bureaucrat, no matter how powerful, can duplicate the pricing efficiencies of the regulated free market, and yet millions of people re-elect an anti-populist to destroy our nation with more attempts.
BEHOLD the Liberal in action, and see how easily he makes a fool of himself: this is a description of what has led mr. Obama to make another exception to the enforcement mechanisms of Obamacare.
There’s no such thing as a free lunch. If you ban lifetime limits, and mandate lower deductibles, and cap out-of-pocket costs, premiums have to go up to reflect these changes. And unlike a lot of the “rate shock” problems we’ve been discussing, these limits apply not only to individually-purchased health insurance, but also to employer-sponsored coverage. (Self-insured employers are exempted.)
These mandates have already had drastic effects on a number of colleges and universities, which offer inexpensive, defined-cap plans to their healthy, youthful students. Premiums at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C., for example, rose from $245 per student in 2011-2012 to between $2,507 in 2012-2013. The University of Puget Sound paid $165 per student in 2011-2012; their rates rose to between $1,500 and $2,000 for 2012-2013. Other schools have been forced to drop coverage because they could no longer afford it. <source>
Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.
Note the author’s policy statement in the first sentence I excerpted: “There’s no such thing as a free lunch”. If you are one of the guilty parties for returning mr. Obama to the White House, do these words ring true, or are you hopelessly lost in your delusion?
So this dead-end of price fixing has led to another Obama decision to delay a piece of the Obamacare law:
Yet Another White House Obamacare Delay: Out-Of-Pocket Caps Waived Until 2015 <source>
Rest assured there will be more unilateral executive actions by Obama as he pursues various “fixes” to a law that cannot be fixed.
And rest assured that this is exactly as he wants it: the granting of exceptions is the single most powerful tool in a politician’s arsenal when trying to over-through a free society (as I wrote about extensively back in March 2011 before the election: The Waiver Train, or How Obama Seeks to Become a Despot).
It sounds like hyperbole to say that we are living through (not just witnessing) a communist takeover of the United States, and yet any objective review of Barack Obama’s actions can only lead to this conclusion.
