“The people who are worried about privacy have a legitimate worry, but we live in a complex world where you’re going to have to have a level of security greater than you did back in the olden days, if you will,” Bloomberg said during a press conference on Monday. “And our laws and our interpretation of the Constitution, I think, have to change.”
He went on to note that we live in a dangerous world and that there are some who wish to take away Americans’ freedoms, the Observer’s Politicker reports. But in order to protect these sentiments, Bloomberg argued that more intensive security is necessary. “We have to understand that in the world going forward, we’re going to have more cameras and that kind of stuff. That’s good in some sense, but it’s different from what we are used to,” he continued.
As the Observer’s Politicker notes, Bloomberg also invoked gun control while making his point about the Constitution and security. In connecting what he said is the Supreme Court’s recognition that there are some interpretations of the Second Amendment that give way to “reasonable gun laws,” the mayor said that the nation will also need to “live with reasonable levels of security.” SOURCE
“Bloomberg also invoked gun control while making his point about the Constitution and security.” I think Mr. Bloomberg should make note of certain facts;
1. It is our right the keep and bear arms, the second amendment shall not be violated.
2. Bombs are banned, we are not allowed as citizens to own weapons of mass destruction, but sadly it did not stop the Boston Bombers from making them.
3. Reading above #2 isn’t it obvious any form of gun control only truly effects law abiding citizens?
You see people like Bloomberg do not understand the truth of freedom. Bloomberg says we have to look at the Constitution differently, he thinks we need more security and in that he acknowledges we will have less freedom, diminished rights and essentially a police sate in the end. It may only be a nudge now but eventually it will become a push and eventually it will become a shove….
Do we as Americans run from a possible threat directly into the arms of a known danger? I mean think about it can Bloomberg and those like him stop what happened in Boston from happening again? If we let them violate our constitution, our rights, our lives, then what do we have left if we willingly surrender even an ounce of our freedoms?
Of Course we don’t want more bombings, but allowing politicians to manipulate the constitution to suit themselves is not the answer. Our rights should be untouchable! Our founding fathers went to great efforts to assure we would never as citizens of this great nation fall prey to the whims of tyrants. Yet here we see Mr. Millions Bloomberg trying to direct the lives of the people in his city and on a national level trying to rob from us our right to protect our homes families and selves.
I don’t know how anybody who reads this feels, but it puts a knot in my gut any time some fancy pants millionaire thinks he knows what is best for me.
My hopes and prayers are always for this nation and it’s people.
