Apparently we must be forced in to accepting or boycotted, personal beliefs unacceptable to homosexuals.

Gay rights activists are calling for DC Comics to fire the author of a new digital Superman project because he is opposed to gay marriage.

Orson Scott Card, a well-known science fiction author, is part of a team of writers and artists assembled by DC Comics to create “Adventures of Superman.”

Card, who is Mormon, is also an opponent of same-sex marriage. He once called gay marriage the end of democracy in America.

He once wrote that “the left is at war with the family” and suggested gays could change.

“Same-sex attraction is not a strait jacket; people’s desires change over time; gay people still have choices; a reproductive dysfunction like same-sex attraction is not a death sentence for your DNA or for your desire to have a family in which children grow up with male and female parents to model appropriate gender roles,” he wrote in an op-ed.

And Card’s participation in the Superman project has sparked outrage across the nation’s gay community.

Thousands have signed a petition at Allout.org calling for DC Comics to fire Card – and if they don’t – the comic book publisher could face a boycott.

“He’s written publicly that he believes marriage equality would lead to the end of civilization,” the petition states. “We need to let DC Comics know they can’t support Orson Scott Card or his work to keep LGBT people as second-class citizens. They know they’re accountable to their fans, so if enough of us speak out now, they’ll hear us loud and clear.”

A DC Comics spokesperson released a statement to Fox News defending Card.

“As content creators we steadfastly support freedom of expression, however the personal views of individuals associated with DC Comics are just that – personal views – and not those of the company itself,” the statement read.

Their defense of Card is not likely to quell the anger building in the gay community.

The website Queerty addressed the controversy in a column titled, “Why Did DC Comics Hire Rabid Homophobe Orson Scott Card to Write Superman?”

Jono Jarrett, of the Geeks Out fan group, called the inclusion of Card “deeply disappointing.”

“Superman stands for truth, justice and the American way,” he told The Guardian. “Orson Scott Card does not stand for any ideas of truth, justice or the American way that I can subscribe to.”

Actor Michael Hartney wrote online that Card is an embarrassment to the company.

“If this was a Holocaust denier or a white supremacist, there would be no question,” he wrote on Tumblr. “Hiring that writer would be an embarrassment to your company.”

Card, who did not respond to interview requests, is also a board member of the National Organization for Marriage – a group that promotes the traditional version of marriage.

NOM President Brian Brown told Fox News he was simply stunned that gay rights activists are trying to destroy a man’s career.

“This is completely un-American and it needs to be stopped,” Brown said. “Simply because we stand up for traditional marriage, some people feel like it’s okay to target us for intimidation and punishment.”

Brown called the attacks on Card frightening and said it’s another example of gay rights activists trying to punish those who believe marriage should be a union between a man and woman.

“Marriage is the union of a man and a woman,” Brown said. “That is not hateful. That is not bigoted.”

He said it’s not the first time gay activists have tried to have people fired for their personal beliefs. He recalled the story of a waitress in California who gave money to Proposition Eight. Pro-gay activists set up picket lines at the restaurant calling for her ouster.

“We can disagree on core issues – but we can do so in such a way where we don’t try to hurt or intimidate each other,” Brown told Fox News.

There are some who agree with Brown, like Rich Johnston of the website Bleeding Cool.

He said it was wrong to demand Card’s firing.

“It’s a very dangerous game,” he wrote. “It has led in the past to witch trials, McCarthyite or otherwise, and it’s no better than the actions of, say, One Million Moms. And next time? It could be you.”

I would like to think in this nation we Americans have the right to choose what it is we will support or not within our belief systems. Sadly an average Joe in America cannot be anti-gay without the gay community coming unglued. People have values and we will not always share those values and if a person wishes to speak out on their joy of being gay, then they must understand not everybody is going to share that sentiment…Right? Wouldn’t people rather have honesty than to never know where they truly stand? I mean everybody against the belief that being a homosexual is acceptable could lie and say “Yeah its cool with me.” Have we become a nation of people seeking “Yes Men” over honesty. Calling for a man to be fired because he was honest is immature and shows that those behind these boycotts are one sided and cannot accept differing opinions as valid. Yet they want others to accept them without question. Strange happenings where people have a right to religion as well as freedom of speech. Those of you calling for the firing of Orson Scott Card should revisit what freedom means and how you seek to destroy it. Superman would be ashamed of your pettiness and hunger for acceptance that you are not owed.

  1. Hello World,

I would be the other half of Basharr the good looking half that he is married to. Oh wait a minute Basharr is a man and I am his woman! I am so tired of this fuss about gays and their feelings and who they want fired, and what they want and do not want and so on a so forth. I could go the religious route because I am a Roman Catholic, I could go the obvious route because the idea of same sex couples just makes me want to vomit!

Off the topic but not really for a moment, we were going to start watching the Following, a new series on TV. The first night we watched the show two guys were making out! THAT IS DISGUSTING ….so guess what gay people….we straight people are boycotting that show because of your gay tendencies. Not watching it, writing to the FCC and whatever higher ups there are and making a formal complaint! Ok, back on topic now!

This world is where it is because a man and a woman got together and had babies. Repeat, the man and woman thing and voila the human race. A man and man or a woman and a woman did not have anything to do with the creation of new babies on the long line of the human race. Get over it you cannot get pregnant and all this jealousy is making all you gay people out there look really petty and immature. You got a gay super hero, the Green Arrow, why not try supporting your own and leave the straight super heroes alone and the people writing about them!

Well as you can see I am not as eloquent as my husband is with words but I get tired of the crap from gays. Maybe if you all acted like normal people instead of trying to stand out and act like idiots you might get more respect. Maybe if you left people live their own lives and kept your nose to yourself you might be able to live your own lives. Just like the Atheists and their war on Christmas you cannot leave well enough alone. Remember this, karma is a bitch and you get what you give, down the road what you do always comes back ten fold. Oh and by the way, that is not a religious saying it is universal!!!!!!

  2. Tired of the extreme minority of gays pushing as if everyone is gay except a small minority. less thatn 3% of the US population is gay or something other than straight. they need to stay in the closet and no one will care what they are as long as they are not hurting anyone or animal.

    sick and discusting behavior period

    • Ha, very good my friend what we are doing here is exercising our right to free speech and our belief system that is not for sale, trade, or up for grabs. I would love them to boycott this blog. They want a warm fuzzy world that is not based on reality and honesty.

  3. Whoa, whoa. My opinion is, is that gay men, lesbian women, and transgendered people wouldnt have to try so hard to be accepted if homophobes would just accept the fact that we are who we are. We except straight people in all forms, why is it so hard to reciprocate? You say to stay in the closet and no one will care and no one will get hurt, right? Well what is the difference if one said if they were gay, pansexual, lesbian or anything else?! What is the difference if one said that they were straight? Nothing because THEY ARE WORDS AND THEY ARENT BEING ACTED UPON WITH YOU SO WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL. If you havent noticed there is always a war between the straight and non-straight people. Why? If you guys would mind your own business and like who you like, then we would mind our own business and like who we like, then peace at last. Keep your thoughts to yourself unless something is being confronted upon with you! Whats making you petty and immature is getting “revenge” because they are boycotting for something that they believe in. If the boycott story would have never happened you probably would have never even thought to do it. That is childish. There shouldnt be a restriction on who you love, what you watch, and what you do in society. You should be minding the crime, drug abuse, child abuse, etc that is going on in the world that is really impacting our lives. Those are the things that we, together, united and equal(like in the Declaration of Independence) should be expressing our opinions on; being gay is not nearly as damaging as those things ,so why make it a big deal?

    • “We except straight people in all forms, why is it so hard to reciprocate?” Hmmmm Ever seen a gay pride parade that did not in some way attack religion, for that matter have you ever seen a “Straight Pride Parade”? Until the recently, say the last 20 years or so people’s sexuality was pretty much kept under wraps. Nobody was making a huge issue of their sexual preference, there was no need to shout to the world what they did in their bedrooms. But here comes the gay movement, we shall call it that for the sake of conversation. I worked in San Francisco for many many years, there were homosexuals that worked my office, in the beginning I thought live and let live but as time went by noticed some thing, you may not want to admit it but they were extremely intolerant of straight people or people who’s belief system did not support their choices. Freedom means nothing if one must be forced to accept that which morally they believe is wrong.

You want to talk about child abuse…NAMBLA Men who want to have sex with boys. Those men are gay, you may not want to admit it but same sex sex is homosexuality. In this case it is also pedophilia and yet Gays are demanding to be let into the BSA.

The problem as I see it is there is a value system and though homosexuals don’t share the same value system, they expect others to alter theirs. Look at the gays that were invited to the white house last year, big advocates for gay rights and what do they do photograph themselves flipping the finger to portraits of Ronald Reagan, and groping and sucking face, have you ever seen images like that taken in the white house ever? It is the need to be the center of attention, the need to be accepted and the inability to understand not everybody “Has” to accept your choices in this world. Do you know there was a beautiful park in the hills of Oakland California Jaquin Miller Park. Had wonderful hiking trails, beautiful views and many landmarks. The park became a place where gay men met and sex was had and children could not be taken because it was quite common to come across men having sex in public. The restrooms were unsafe because if a person went to use on they were often hit on by gay men looking for sex. Lake Merit in Oakland became the same way. If you don’t see the problem with this then there in is the problem. Juaqin Miller Park hiking area was closed due to this and had to be patrolled by cops.

Strange the park was never overrun by straight people seeking sex….Morality.

      • Okay, doing what those men did isn’t okay at all and I understand that. I would admit to not knowing about this incident at all ad it goes to show that I have a lot to learn and a lot to stay open minded about. The pedophilia isn’t just with gay men though. There are straight men having sex with little girls out there too! So you can’t just highlight what the gays are doing that’s wrong because we are not the only one.

      • About the parades, there are some attacks of religion out there;but have you ever seen a church not attack a man or woman for being gay? Not many churches do and not many gay people do either. No, I haven’t seen a “straight pride parade” but have you ever seen a white history month? I’m not saying that white people haven’t done anything worthy of being acknowledged about but they are white so they are being acknowledged regardless. They haven’t struggled as much as black people have. Gay people have a more significant story. Straight people dont get bullied for being who they are and straight people don’t get shunned from society for their orientation. I’m not saying that people have to accept us but if you don’t accept us don’t say anything about it. If you don’t like what we do then don’t say anything about it(to a certain extent).

  4. It is religious beliefs that gets the churches wound up, it is the godless people that attack the church for holding fast to their beliefs in the word of the bible. As far as the pedophilia I targeted a specific group called NAMBLA not all gays just the fact the entire group engages in underage homosexuality. White history month…Very good, are you aware the Republican party fought in the civil war against southern democrats who believed slavery should be kept in place. Off topic yes but could not resist. =) I do not believe gay people have anymore significant of a story than any other American in this nation. I believe that morality trumps all and what one does with their life. Look here is a simple way to look at this. I was not liked by everybody throughout my years growing up. There are always people that for whatever reason do not like other people. I do not boycott those people or their place of work because they do not like me. I chalk it up to life and move on. Thats what most people do. Chik-fil-et, perfect example a family oriented company and they were honest about their beliefs and blam boycott…But what happened, people turned out in droves in support of the company. Americans should be able to speak their mind it is called FREEDOM of SPEECH. Would you rather I was dishonest about my feelings on the subject? You cannot have it both ways and anything less than honesty is fake. Nobody should support boycotts that are used as a bullying tactic and that could cost people their jobs. Like I said in my original post nobody owes acceptance it is either earned or it isn’t. Nobody earns it from me by boycotting good people.

  5. I am sorry but homosexuality is NOT natural and is a perversion of the human nature.

Yes there are straight men and women pedophiles and guess what? They are SHUNNED as disgusting perverts and NOT accepted as normal …. Period

If gays want to be accepted in society then it needs to be based on other things NOT because they are gay. Flaunting it about as if it is the only thing about you is not a way to be accepted ….

    • You know man, I don’t wish HIV/AIDS on any human being but all one has to do is a bit of research and see there are vast numbers of gay men who knowingly have unprotected anal sex. KNOWINGLY they put other people lives at risk as well as their own. Read some of the commentary here http://www.thebody.com/content/art57151.html I am telling you there is more wrong with this picture than I can begin to explain. Words come to mind Responsibility, honesty, values, morality, but one word screams out, SUICIDE! When people engage in something they know without a doubt carries a possible death sentence and they do so anyway choosing not to take precautions, I believe it is pretty much a criminal act. They long, beg, demand to be accepted as normal while continually carrying out potentially SUICIDAL BEHAVIOR. You see I feel there is a disconnect with reality, and as well it makes me question the mental stability of any individual who would knowingly rick infecting the love of their life with a known deadly disease. You see I love my life and even more I love my wife, I take any steps necessary to keep her from harms way. Isn’t that what would be considered NORMAL?

      • There is NOTHING normal about this life style they “choose” it is about self gratification … period. They know full well the consequences of AIDS yet as you say they do it anyways.

I do not hate them for what they choose but neither will I condone it or accept it.

Society doesn’t even accept brother-sister, mother-son, father-daughter yet gay seems to be a forced issue, they truly are not about freedom but about what I want and I will make you accept it.

I have never been rude to them or not allowed them to speak their opinion but I do not want any part of what they do, yet they feel the need to make me accept … get over it … it is not happening
